Colorado Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)
Overview
LEAP is a federally funded program that helps eligible Colorado families, seniors, and individuals pay a portion of their winter home heating costs. The program runs seasonally from November through April each year.
2025-2026 Season
- Start date: November 1, 2025
- End date / application deadline: April 30, 2026
- Applications accepted throughout the season until the deadline
Eligibility Requirements
- Household income must not exceed 60% of the State Median Income
- Must pay home heating costs (directly to a utility company OR to a landlord as part of rent)
- Must provide proof of lawful presence in the U.S. for you and household members born outside the U.S.
- Must be a Colorado resident
What's Covered
- A portion of winter home heating costs (bill credit sent to your utility company)
- Furnace repair and replacement in heat-related emergencies
- Weatherization services (pending home energy audit results)

Notes
- LEAP does not pay rent directly, but it frees up money by covering heating costs
- If heating is included in your rent, you may still qualify
- The program is seasonal; apply before April 30 each year
- Also check with your utility company for additional low-income programs
